‘She Can Afford To Repaint It’: No One Is Weeping for the Walmart Heiress After Climate Protesters Vandal Her $300 Million Superyacht

On Sunday, two eco-protesters from Spanish climate activist group Futuro Vegetal did what the proletariat boat-destroying orca whales only wished they had the opposable thumbs to do — spray-paint the hell out of a Walmart heiress’ $300 million superyacht docked on the coast of Ibiza.

After coating the back of the vessel, which belongs to Nancy Walton Laurie of the billionaire Walton family, with red and black paint, the duo posed for a series of photos flaunting both their excellent tagging chops and a poster reading, “You Consume Others Suffer.”

Though the protesters were quickly arrested, per the Spanish Civil Guard, Futuro Vegetal stood by their demonstration on social media, a campaign they described as a necessary act of “civil disobedience” amid the ongoing climate crisis.

“The only reason we continue to maintain an economic system that leads us to eco-social collapse is to sustain the privileges of this small privileged class,” Futuro Vegetal explained in a post shared to Twitter, according to the platform’s English translation. “The mega-rich live off the suffering of others.”

Despite garnering a series of highly unrelatable boo-hoos from yacht enthusiasts — “They just angry they are broke,” commented Instagram user @chanz.the.rapper on luxury creator @dadocesaro’s video of the incident — the vast majority (or dare we say, other 99 percent) were filled with schadenfreude at Walton’s newly-painted vessel.

“I’m supposed to feel something??” asked Twitter user @DawnLauri.

“Walmart heiress’s super yacht vandalises climate belonging to everyone else,” argued @benwhlong.

Besides, as @neilh2o pointed out, the pain for Walton Laurie is only temporary anyway: “If the yacht is worth $300 million she can afford to repaint it.”
